Militant arrested with explosive materials

Imphal: Imphal West Police on Tuesday arrested a ‘hard-core’ cadre of proscribed PREPAK (Pro) outfit from his resident at Lairikyengbam Makha Leikai.

The arrested insurgent was identified as Naoroibam Joyshankar Singh alias Loyumba alias Khougang, 37, son of N. Inaocha Singh.

Joyshankar was involved in IED attacks at CM Bungalow Gate on August 10, 2013 and at Route 39 restaurant at Mantripukhri on August 17, 2013, superintendent of police Dr S. Ibomcha told reporters, here.

He had threaten Naoroibam Boge of Lairikyengbam Makha Leikai by lobbing 2(two) Chinese hand grenades and exploded at the paddy field near his house on Monday at around 12:30 am, the senior police officer said.

Joyshankar was nabbed when the police acted on an information of about the presence of some active cadres of PREPAK (Pro) organisation in and around Lairikyengbam Makha Leikai area who were going to commit pre-judicial activities like hurling of bombs and planning IEDs at private business centre, shops etc, he added.

The police team rushed to the area and conducted cordon and search operation at some suspected houses. During the search operation Joyshankar was arrested from his house at 5 am.

According to the superintendent of police the accused Joyshankar joined the PREPAK (Pro) organisation in the year 2009 through one Herojit from Salanthong and got basic military training for three months at Ngayensong, Myanmar and allotted Army No. 39914 of 39th batch, holding the rank of Lance Corporal and presently working under the command of self-styled Captain Jiten and chairman Subhash alias Palheiba alias Muni of PREPAK (Pro).

From his possession explosive items were recovered from a black polythene bag in front of his bed. They included one set of IED fitted in a tin fish cane; one Chinese hand grenades; one Air gun rifle; four PEK cake; three electronic circuits; one remote control device; three detonators; 10 numbers of 3.7 volts batteries; three 4.5 volts batteries; two numbers of 9 volts battery; and soldering equipments use in assembling IED.

The arrested person and the recovered items will be handed over to Lamphel Police station for taking further necessary legal action against him, the senior police officer said.
