Imphal: Tengnoupal battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR(S) foiled cross border smuggling of Chinese origin goods in Tengnoupal district on Tuesday.
During an area domination operation, troops of Assam Rifles observed movement of three suspicious individuals carrying bags near Kwatha village. On seeing the troops approaching, the individuals escaped in to the jungle leaving behind the bags, the Assam Rifles said.
On searching the bags, chinese origin cigarettes, mosquito coils, cosmetics and textile items of worth Rs 9.30 lakh were recovered, it added.
The recovered items were handed over to Custom Preventive Force, Moreh for further investigation, it said.
