Manipur reacquires Rajbari at Shilong

Imphal: Manipur has reacquired the historic plot of Manipur Rajbari at Shilong which belonged Manipur king.

Chief minister N. Biren Singh tweeted this information.

He said it was here that Maharaja Bodhachandra stayed at the time of signing the Manipur Merger Agreement to Dominion of India on September 21, 1949.

Sadly the plot no longer belonged to the state of Manipur, he added.

“However, the plot measuring 1.93 acres at Redlands, Laitumkhrah, has now been allotted to the Government of Manipur after series of negotiations on payment of premium of Rs 91,04,784. The plot finally belongs to Manipur after decades of struggle to take possession of it,” Biren said.

“The state government has decided to build a Manipur Bhavan on this plot,” he added.
