Former Manipur PCC president Govindas joins BJP

Imphal: Former Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president Govindas Konthoujam has joined BJP in a function held in Delhi on Sunday.

Govindas Konthoujam had resigned from Congress and as member of Manipur Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.

Govindas was elected six times from 26-Bishnupur Assembly Constituency.

Welcoming the new member in the BJP, chief minister N. Biren Singh said, “It is very joyous moment particularly for Manipur.”

With the advent of BJP government in Manipur violence, strike, bandh came to an end. Peace and prosperity has been prevailed in the state since the past four and half years and people believe in BJP, he added.

“I was also in Congress. But if the driver does not listen to those in the bus, how long will we sit in the vehicle?” Biren said.

Govindas is my friend, we worked together for the betterment of Manipur. He could have been with me when I joined BJP. There was communication gap that had delayed the entry of Govindas to BJP,” he added.

He said more will join BJP.

Biren joined BJP in 2016.

BJP Manipur president A. Sarda Devi said people faith to BJP has increased to such an extent that Govindas joins the party.

“As the nation moves forward under the leadership of Prime Minister more youth will join BJP,” Govindas said as he thanked BJP leaders.

He said he will endeavor to make BJP get absolute majority in the state Assembly Elections that would held next year.

Union minister RK Ranjan, Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, BJP Manipur in-charge, Damnit Patil and others attended the function.
