Assam Rifles organises freedom cycle rally

Imphal: Chandel Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) organised a Freedom Cycle Rally to promote Fit India Movement and celebrate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav in collaboration with Chandel and MAAMBA Cycling Clubs on Saturday.

​The cycle rally was flagged off by Major General Alok Naresh, Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) from Mantripukhri garrison and covered the distance of 100 Km along the Mantripukhri – Nambol – Bishnupur route, culminating at INA Museum, Moirang in Bishnupur district.

​Ninety cyclists including 70 civilian members of the local cycle clubs participated in the event. The cyclists passed through prominent places and halted in remote villages to spread awareness on India’s Independence movement as well as Fit India Movement.

​Earlier the event commenced with the scintillating performance by Assam Rifles Pipe Band followed by felicitation of Lamhoi Haokip wife of Late Solet Haokip, veteran of Azad Hind Fauj and Indian Footballer Bala Devi by Major General Alok Naresh.

​In his address to cyclists, Major General Alok Naresh mentioned that the Freedom Cycle Rally is a prelude to the long cycle rally which will be flagged off on September 5 from Shilong and culminate at New Delhi on October 2. The long cycle rally aims to celebrate and cherish the spirit of freedom across the country by felicitating past, living in the glorious present and embracing the future.

​The Chandel and MAAMBA cycle clubs expressed their gratitude towards Assam Rifles for organising the motivating and patriotic event.

 

Assam Rifles provides medical aid.

​IGAR(South) provided medical aid to Lamhoi Haokip wife of Late Solet Haokip, veteran of Indian National Army who fought along side Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose for India’s independence.

​Mrs Lamhoi Haokip is 98 years old was guest of honor in flagging off ceremony of Freedom Cycle Rally organised at Mantripukhri garrison. Later, she was examined by team of medical specialists from Assam Rifles for old age ailments and was given requisite medicines.

​IGAR(South) assured Haokip of their continuous support whenever they need.
