Imphal: Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh greeted the people of Manipur on the occasion of Id-ul-Zuha and appealed the people to celebrate the religious occasion with restrictions.
“In view of the prevailing situation arising out of the Covid-19 pandemic in the state, I appeal to our Muslim brethren to restrict the celebration by performing ritual and prayer within the confines of their homes and by observing the Covid appropriate behaviour,” Biren said as he convened his ‘warm’ greetings on the joyous occasion.
Id-ul-Zuha, the festival of sacrifice, falls on the Islamic month of Dhul Dhu al-Hijjah and it is celebrated with traditional fervor and gaiety across the world. The festival marks the end of Hajj and commemorates the faith of Prophet Ibrahim and his devotion to Allah. It also signifies the spirit of sacrifice rising above the narrow barriers of one’s ego and self-interest for the good of all, Biren said.
“May the festival strengthen brotherhood and harmony and bring peace and prosperity to our state,” he added.
