3 nabbed for spreading false information

Imphal: Manipur Police nabbed three persons in connection with uploading a video on Facebook which ‘falsely’ mentioned that 500 persons out of 700 were found positive in a mass covid testing at Takyel Khongbal, Imphal West.

The three persons were Thaodem Romesh, 34, son of Th. Ibochou and Thaodem Bikram, 43, son of Thaodem Kula of Sekmai Laipat, and Sougrakpam Johnson Singh, 34, son of Gambir Singh of Naoremthong Khumanthem Leikai, Takyel Khongbal ward no. 2.

According to police Romesh uploaded one video in the Facebook page “KANGLA PAO FB ENTERTAINMENT” on Saturday in which it was the Covid test result was falsely mentioned.

It was learnt that he got the said video from one WhatsApp group called PYDO (Progressive Youth Development Organisation) where it was uploaded by Bikram and the video was prepared by Johnson.

A case registered at Lamphel Police station based on a complaint lodged by DM Imphal West for making the people panicky by spreading false information of Covid pandemic.

Superintendent of Imphal West Police has appealed to the people not to spread false information about Covid-19.

It was reported that around 737 people were tested, out of which 31 were found positive for Covid-19.
