Imphal: A special team of Kakching Police of Manipur on Saturday apprehended two persons who threatened and physically assaulted villagers of Molnom in an attempt to extort.
The miscreants were Thangboi Haokip alias TL Jacob Thadou, 46, and Anthony Khammailen Mate, 20, both residents of Timothy Khangin Mate of Phaijang Village, Chakpikarong, Chandel district.
Police said they were apprehended from Pheijang Village, Chandel district in connection with an FIR of Sugnu Police station which relates to a report that, on Friday at around 8:45 pm Thangbo along with Khamminlen armed with fire arms were loitering with an intention to extort in and around K. Molnom village area and they further threatened and physically assaulted some of the villagers of the area with an attempt to murder.
On search of the residence of Thangboi Haokip at 6.10 am, the police seized one AK-47 Rifle with three magazines and 40 live rounds, one 12 bore pump action gun bearing number 18PGN -02518, RFI-IN-2018 and four live rounds, one Vivo mobile handset, two seals (marked as Chief/ Chairman Phaijang Village Authority, CKG-Block, Chandel district, Manipur and Secretary Phaijang Village Authority CKG-Block, Chandel district, Manipur) and one four wheeler Hundai Creta B/Regn. No. MN04P-1849.
Further enquiry reveals that Thangboi has been extorting, threatening and harassing villagers of K Molnom and Serou Lamkhai, etc. He is further listed as TL Jacob Thadou, organizing secretary UKLF/UPF (So0 group) and convener, UPF, police said.
