Imphal: Education minister S. Rajen Singh inspected the construction progress of Government Polytechnics at Imphal East and Thoubal districts, and Government Engineering College at Khangarok in Heirok, Thoubal district.
The work orders were issued for the construction of eight new Government Polytechnics at Thoubal, Imphal East, Ukhrul, Bishnupur, Chandel, Tamenglong, Churachanpur and Senapati in the year 2015.
The visit aims to bring a speedy completion of the structures so that there will be session of these technical institutions at the earliest, Rajen said.
He said since there is unsatisfactory work progress the executing department has been instructed to release the pending bills of the contractors depending on the liabilities of the existing status of the structures.
Delaying in completion of the institutes has affected the academic atmosphere of the inspiring students. If these structures had been completed in time, a batch of polytechnicians could be seen in the eight districts. It is a loss not only for the students but also for our society, he added.
A decision will be taken regarding the continuation of the works being undertaken at different districts. An agreement between the contractors, executing agency and the government will come to force so that the responsibilities of the concerns will not be stayed away, he said.
Mentioning about Dhanamanjuri University where construction of the buildings are in progress, Rajen said that concerned contractors and departmental officials have been instructed to complete and hand over the same in time. He said that there has been incident of collapse of a pillar of the old building of DM College of Science. The site has been visited by a ministerial team and necessary arrangement will be made for renovating the structure, he added.
