Assam Rifles foils smuggling of Teak wood

Imphal: Troops of Assam Rifles along with 165 TA under the aegis of IGAR(South) foiled timber smuggling near Khudengthabi on Tuesday.

A team of Tengnoupal Battalion launched a search operation at 8 pm of the day acting on a specific intelligence report. The team intercepted a truck carrying teak wood. On thorough checking, 45.395 cubic feet of teak wood was recovered from the vehicle.

The recovered wood and the apprehended individuals were handed over to forest department for further investigation, the Assam Rifles said on Wednesday.

In another development troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled smuggling of timber near Heirok village in Thoubal on Wednesday.

Based on credible inputs from the reliable sources, troops of Assam Rifles intercepted two vehicles carrying timber on 19 May. On thorough checking of the vehicles, smuggled timber assessed to be worth Rs 1.58 crore was recovered, the Assam Rifles said.

The seized timber along with the apprehended individuals were handed over to Forest Range Office Thoubal for further legal action.
