Imphal: In a major breakthrough against smuggling of illegal drugs and contraband Items, Khuga Battalion Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled a drug smuggling on Wednesday.
Based on reliable intelligence, security forces established a mobile vehicle check post on National Highway 102 near Geljang village and intercepted a vehicle with two suspected drug peddlers. On detailed search of the vehicle, 58 Kg of Opium worth Rs 34.8 Lakh was recovered concealed inside the doors of the vehicle, the Assam Rifles said.
The drug peddlers identified as Lulun Chongloi resident of Khopi Veng, Kangpokpi district and HaopuToutsang resident of Aigejang village, Kangpokpi.
The apprehended drug peddlers along with the recovered drug were handed over to Churachandpur Police station for further investigation.
