Panchayat day boycott

Imphal: Amid the boycott of National Panchayat Raj Day by the elected members of Panchayati Raj Institutions in Manipur, chief minister N. Biren Singh extend greetings on the occasion.

“Warm greetings on National ‘Panchayati Raj Day’ where we celebrate the empowerment of our country’s grassroots democratic institutions that serves as a testament of ‘Sarvodaya through Antyodaya.’ These institutions foster a spirit of democracy of our country and its citizens. Jai Hind!” Biren writes on his Facebook wall.

National Panchayat Raj Day was boycotted as a part of the ongoing agitation by the members of Panchayati Raj Institutions and MGNREGS job card holders demanding immediate release of funds of job card holders wages for 16 months, 15th finance Commission Award (2nd instalment), honorarium of Panchayat functionaries from October 2019 to March 2021 and immediate implementation of NeFMS for the welfare of job card holders.

As India observed the National Panchayati Raj Day 2021 on April 24, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a new scheme for villages in India and direct transfer of award money to the bank accounts of Panchayats in the country.
