Imphal: Rajya MP Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba on Sunday said efforts of some communities’ groups demanding for sovereignty of their respective lands will be impossible.
Instead of demanding for sovereignty the communities should compete with other states in the field of development, Sanajaoba said.
The MP who is the titular king of Manipur was speaking during the 286th foundation day celebration of Langol Tarung Village cum cultural festival, 2021 held at Langol Tarung village ground here on Sunday. People should cooperate each other to bring development for the state, he said. He said the demand for schedule tribe status for the entire state will be discussed with chief minister, N Biren to press at central government.
It was also found that one committee named as Schedule Tribe Demand Committee (STDCM) had already submit letters to the central government for the demand, Leishemba said. People are still not satisfied regarding the verdict of CBI in connection with the Babysana case. He assured the people that the issue will be discussed with chief minister under humanitarian ground also and what could be done.
Regarding the NSCN-IM peace talk, he said he had talked with union home minister earlier. He was told that the central government will fulfil their appropriate demands however the talk will not affect any interest of Manipur, he added.
The village was established in 1735 AD during the reign of king Garibaniwaza by Kabuis who returned from king’s Garibaniwaza Burma invasion (expedition to Myedoo in upper Burma). The group of tribes was allowed to settle by the king at Langol hills and Chingmeirong. The expedition is confirmed by reference in the royal chronicles, Cheitharol Kumbaba and Ningthourol Lambuba.
Cultural dances and songs were performed by the villagers in their traditional attires.
