Imphal: Fact-finding Committee pertaining to the firing incident at Sandang Senba Maring in Kangpokpi district is seeking submission for report on the circumstances leading to the incident which took place on March 29.
The committee was constituted on the same day. A notification was issued by commissioner (RD & PR), Naidhi Kesarwani in a notification on March 30. It sought measures to avoid such incidents in future.
Any person who desires to submit documents or evidence on the circumstances leading to the incidents among others may submit the same at room No 210 of secretariat (south block) Imphal during 10 am to 12 noon, on all working days by April 5.
Submission of documents or evidence will be allowed, subject to observance of all applicable SoP norms issued in this regard in connection with Covid-19 pandemic and with entry of persons in the office restricted to not more than five persons at a time of such submission, the commissioner said.
Chief minister N. Biren Singh on March 30 interacted with the residents of Andro and Sandang Sengba Maring villages, in Imphal East, to resolve the long-standing land dispute between the two villages. He assured that he would constitute a committee to conduct an inquiry into the land dispute and find a permanent solution.
Media reports say the two villages are entangled in a land dispute that began a few years ago when residents of the Sandang Sengba Maring village fell trees at the holy abode of deities, ‘Nongpok Ningthou” and Goddess “Panthoibi”.
The tribal communities at Sandang Sengba Maring village regarded it as an encroachment on tribal lands.
At least seven houses at Sandang Senba Maring village were torched to ashes by unknown miscreants on March 29.
A forest fire was also started reportedly at the surrounding areas of Sandangsenba Maring and the people of this affected village were charging the locals of Andro for the alleged arson.
