Imphal: Moreh Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) foiled an attempt to shuffle gold worth lakhs in Moreh on Sunday.
The troops deployed along the Indo Myanmar Border intercepted two persons trying to cross over into the Indian territory. On checking, one gold biscuit weighing approximately 1 kg was recovered. The recovery is estimated to be worth Rs 48.9 lakh, the Assam Rifles said.
The seized gold and apprehended individuals were handed over to customs department for further legal action, it added.
