Solar lamps distributed to students

Imphal: To increase the total study time of children during dark hours and prevent them from exposure to pernicious emissions from predominantly kerosene-burning wick lamps, tribal affairs and hills minister Vungzagin Valte distributed heavily subsidised led solar study lamps to students at YMA hall, Hmuia Veng, Churachandpur on Thursday.

The minister also launched Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign T-shirts during the event. The event was jointly organised by district administration and zonal education office, Churachandpur.

Stating that lack of adequate and consistent lighting has a detrimental impact on the overall well-being of students from poor households, the Minister appreciates the untiring efforts of Ginsuanhau Zou, chairman, MANIREDA and L. Manglem Singh, director, MANIREDA to provide reliable source of electricity for school going children so they can study and progress well. He later distributed the free solar lamps to the students and informed them about the importance of these lamps and how this initiative will brighten their future as empowered citizens. He also urged the students to devote maximum time in studies and make their parents proud.

A total of 6174 led solar study lamps will be distributed to beneficiaries from Singngat, Henglep, Samulamlan and Churachandpur blocks under ZEO/ Churachandpur, an official statement said.
