Salai chief Samarjit arrested

Imphal: Salai group of companies founder Narengbam Samarjit was arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi on Thursday.

He travelled from London in an Air India flight and reached Delhi on Wednesday.

Sources said Samarjit was planning to fly out of Delhi to his hometown Imphal on Thursday.

National Investigating Agency (NIA) was alerted about Samarjit for his ‘separatist stance of a de-jure Manipur government based in London’ along with Yambem Biren who proclaimed himself as the de-jure chief minister of Manipur. They have been taking provisional asylum in London since last year.

Police had declared wanted Samarjit for his separatist stance and also for alleged operation of ponzi scheme.

Samarjit will be produced in Patiala Court, Delhi and brings him to Imphal on Friday, a source said.

The National Investigation Agency says self-styled external and defence minister of the so-called ‘Manipur State Council’ Narengbam Samarjit is still holding the post of director and managing director of four companies of Salai Group of Companies.
