Imphal: Former Rajya Sabha MP B.D. Behring has appealed to conduct ADC election for the existing six ADCs without any delay.
In order to strengthen grass root democracy it is the desire of every citizen for the pending ADC election to be hold on time. But the newly created 4 (four) districts seems to want the election to be held only after bifurcating their separate ADCs, Behring said in a statement released on Tuesday.
“What I would like to reiterate here is that enough ADC Members are representing from these newly created districts. If four new ADCs are to be created for the newly created districts then complication would arise as the number of members have to be readjusted,” he said.
Also, the construction of the office of the ADCs chairmen and the amendment of the constitution would definitely take time. Who knows the present 9 ADC members could be reduced toot Members only, he added.
He opined that it would be better to conduct the ADC election for the present six ADCs and then after the election sit together to amend the Rule/Act.
The extended term of the incumbent ADCs expired in November last year. There are 24 District Council Constituencies in each of the six ADCs and altogether 144 members have to be elected.
