Imphal: Tengnoupal Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR(S) foiled smuggling attempt of contraband items at Tengnoupal on 08 March 20 Monday.
The Assam Rifles jawans, based on specific input, at around 9 am, a Tata Sumo bearing registration number NL 01 H 4343 was stopped at Tengnoupal vehicle check post.
On thorough checking of the vehicle, 99 packets of suspected brown sugar weighing 1.27 kg worth Rs 2.54 crore were recovered which were concealed beneath the rear passenger seat with the help of modifications, the Assam Rifles said.
The vehicle was being driven by K Dovile, son of A Kapabni Lali, resident of Senapati, Tadubi, Manipur. The recovered items were being ferried to Imphal from Moreh.
The detained driver and the recovered items have been handed over to Tengnoupal Police station for further investigation.
