Organisations resolve to continue monitoring rehab centres

Imphal: Kangleipak Drug Awareness and Prevention (KADAP), Users Society for Effective Response, Manipur (USER) and Community Network for Empowerment (CoNE) have unanimously resolved that they will continue monitoring drug rehabilitation centres till state social welfare department takes up necessary steps under the guidelines stated in state gazette against uncertified drug rehabilitation centres.

Sagolshem Herojit, spokesperson of the three bodies said this while talking to reporters at the office of CoNE, here on Saturday.

One of the drug rehabilitation centres, ‘Reintegration’ located at Thambalkhong, Imphal East tried to intercept some drug users in order to get benefit. On Friday one of the staff of the centre named as Nahakpam Lokendro along with three inmates of the centre were found while trying to intercept some drug users in order to enroll in their rehabilitation centre, Herojit said.

All of them were detained by volunteers of the three bodies and after examination and verification they were set free.
He said “Manipur State Policy on Substance Use, 2019” that was published in official gazette.

If state social welfare take necessary steps under “Manipur State Policy on Substance Use, 2019” of gazette notification, harassment on drugs users by some of the drug rehabilitation centres could be avoided.

Herojit said some of the drug rehabilitation centres are continuing their service to get mere benefit for their respective centres without even taking the consent of the family members of the inmates. Instead of giving proper treatment to the inmates some of the rehabilitation centres are providing treatment improperly, he added.
