One District One Product initiative makes a stamp on Day 3 of Mai-Own, 2021

Imphal: Initiative of One District One Product (ODOP) was showcased on the 3rd day (Thursday) of the ongoing Mai-Own, 2021 exhibition at Hapta Kangjeibung, Imphal.

ODOP is an initiative of the central government especially for economic growth and generate employment and rural entrepreneurship, guiding the people of the country to the goal of Atma Nirbhar Bharat (self reliant India).

DIPR team explored the unique products from each districts in the exhibition. Under the directorate of handloom and textiles, there are 60 stalls which are displaying number of handloom and textile products. There are 16 stalls representing one stall each from 16 districts of the state displaying the unique handloom and textiles products and one product is selected and showcased under ODOP.

For District Handloom and Textiles Imphal West, stall no. 78 is showcasing only ‘Ataobi Bedsheet’, that of Imphal East, stall no.89 ‘Wangkhei Phee’, Jiribam, stall no.97 ‘Cane Sofa’, Churachandpur, stall no. 98 ‘Paite Puandum’ (traditional paite shawl both for men and women folk), Pherzawl, stall no. 101 ‘Thangsuopuon’ ( traditional Hmar shawl both for men and women folk), Ukhrul, stall no.102 ‘Longpi Black Pottery’, Kamjong, stall no.104 ‘Traditional Waist Coat for Men’, Tamenglong, stall no.105 ‘Pheingao (kabui traditional shawl both for men and women), Noney, stall no. 107 ‘Langjin Pheisoi (kabui women wrapper), Senapati, stall no 108 ‘Tenymi Shawl’, Bishnupur, stall no. 112 ‘Silk And Cotton Products’, Thoubal, stall no. 115 ‘ Kouna Products’, Chandel, 122 ‘Sum’ (cane and bamboo products), Kangpokpi, stall no 124 ‘Saipikhup’ ( traditional shawl of thadou/kuki community), Kakching, stall no. 128 ‘Potteries of Thongjao’ and Tengnoupal, stall no.125 Phingairuk.

Speaking to DIPR coordinating officer of the Directorate of Handloom and Textiles, Lalhrietpui informed that the objective of the ODOP is to convert each district of the country into an ‘Export Hub’ by identifying products with export potential in the district, addressing bottlenecks for exporting these products, supporting local exporters/manufacturers to scale up manufacturing, and find potential buyers outside India with the aim of promoting exports, promoting manufacturing & services industry in the District and generate employment in the District. She also informed that local textiles and handloom products will be made available to international customers through online marketing by engaging Paona Mart and and the target is to market around 50,000 products. The coordinating officer further informed that national and state awardees are participating in the exhibition of their unique handloom and textiles products.

A total of 250 stalls were opened in the exhibition consisting of 205 as Commercial, 25 as Food stall and 20 departments—forest, planning, police, handloom and textiles, MAHUD, horticulture and soil conservation, DIPR and others, a DIPR report said.
