48 hours ultimatum served for Justice to MBBS student

Imphal: “Justice for Sanaton Athokpam”, a people’s joint action committee has demanded Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh to book the culprits allegedly involved in murder of Sanaton, a student at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in 48 hours.

Pressing to fulfil the demand the people’s committee submitted a memorandum to chief minister on Tuesday. Sanaton was found hanging inside his hostel room of the regional medical institute in Imphal in a ‘suspicious’ manner on Monday afternoon. The action committee was established with Thangjam, Meme Devi as chairman and Moirangthem Loyalakpa as its convenor.

The demands included to conduct autopsy in the presence of a magistrate with full video coverage during the whole process. The investigating officer of the case should be a police personnel who is not less than the rank of deputy superintendent of police. It pressed to provide necessary compensation for the deceased to his family.

The memorandum mentioned that Sanaton has been studying MBBS in 5th semester at RIMS, Imphal by staying at boys hostel. On Tuesday at about 1.30 pm someone informed the sister of the deceased that Sanaton was found handing inside his hostel room. The body was admitted by two of his friends at RIMS causality. When Sanaton was found inside his room only the outer lock of the door was found locked.

Speaking to media, mother of the deceased alleged that Sanaton was murdered. His both hands were found tied behind. She demanded justice for her son and to book the culprits involved during the incident.

A letter was also submitted to director RIMS on the same day. In the letter it is mentioned that since Sanaton was found hanging inside his hostel room in a suspicious manner no investigation from the hospital authority has been taken up. The letter demanded for immediate justice for the deceased.
