MNKF chief nabbed

Imphal: ‘Self-styled chairman’ Akoijam Bhogirod of newly formed proscribed group— Manipur Ngamkhei Kanba Front (MNKF) was nabbed by Manipur Police on Wednesday.

The 50 years old man, resident of Tentha Khunou, was nabbed by a team of commando, Kakching Unit from Kongoi Bazaar near Community Hall in Kakching district at around 4 pm of the day.

Superintendent of police Victoria Yengkhom in a press release said, at around
2pm, inputs were received that some members of a gang group are loitering in and around Kakching area with an intent to carry out prejudicial activities like extortion of money from general public, contractors, businessmen and government departments, etc. in Kakching district.

Acting on the input, the commando unit led by head constable L. Khunjakeshwor Singh of the unit under the command of OC-CDO Unit/Kakching inspector Md. Abash Khan carried out frisking and checking at some suspected areas of the district, in which one suspicious individual was detained at Kongoi Bazaar near community hall, the release said.

On verification, the detained individual identified himself as Akoijam Bhogirod Singh and disclosed that he is the ‘self-styled chairman’ of the proscribed MNKF, it added.

Bhogirod disclosed that he kept concealed at his residence four demand letters, out of which two letters were addressed to the principal, Kha Manipur College, Kakching; one letter addressed to the principal, Thoubal College, Thoubal; one blank demand letter and one line seal of the chairman. Accordingly, the commando team rushed to his residence and recovered the disclosed incriminating articles from his residence, the police officer said.

Hence, from the above facts and circumstances, the MNKF ‘self-styled chairman’ was arrested along with the incriminating articles and one mobile handset, she added.

A regular case has been registered at Kakching Police station under for further investigation, she said in the release.
