Imphal: The situation of wildfire at Dzuko Valley has now been successfully controlled with the tireless efforts of the central and state forces, Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh said on Thursday.
The chief minister gave this information during a function to inaugurate Sekmai ITI and laying of the foundation stones for two Women’s market at Sekmai and Kanglatombi.
Biren showed his gratitude towards Union home minister Amit Shah for his ‘serious concern’ about the inferno and providing immediate assistance to the state’s effort to contain it.
Indian army helicopters were in service and a team of NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) of Guwahati has were engaged to douse a massive wildfire that has been raging in a large area of Dzuko valley.
The fire reportedly broke out in the Dzuko range in Nagaland on December 29 last and spread towards Manipur side December 31.
Dzuko valley, a popular trekking destination and a tourist spot, is located at the border of Nagaland and Manipur. It is known for its natural environment, seasonal flowers, and flora and fauna. It is situated at an altitude of 2452 meter above the sea level.
On Wednesday Biren updated that only few small patches of fire was visible towards Dzuko valley. The main valley was not affected. He said huge areas of smoke could be seen, helicopter services/sorties have started pouring water in the area.
In the ongoing effort to douse the wildfire in the popular tourist destination Dzuko valley on Nagaland-Manipur border, Spear Corps were working hand in hand with various central and state governments organisations and tackling the problem.
The Indian Army and Assam Rifles were providing all possible assistance to the NDRF teams in terms of accommodation, tentage and logistics resources so that they can execute their tasks to their full efficiency.
The Indian Army was providing its aviation base for launch of Bambi bucket operations and coordinating ground support, air traffic control, air space management as well as other logistics support to Indian Air Force, thereby augmenting the air-effort.
