Manipur Police appeal public to remain cautious

Imphal: Following recovery of eight bomb circuit devices and two remote control devices with the arrest of two persons involved in lobbing of a grenade near Raj Bhavan gate, here, on January 19 Manipur Police has appealed the public to remain cautious in the run up of Republic Day celebration.

IG (Zone-I) K. Jayanta Singh told reporters that there might be possibility of planting of bombs at different locations of the state as the main parts of the explosive devices and detonators of the apprehended circuit devices and remote controls were yet to recover. He appealed to the public to stay away from any unidentified suspicious articles and to immediately inform police if found any suspicious object to prevent from unwanted incidents.

The two arrested persons were identified as Lisham Iboshana Meitei aias Jojo alias Kengba alias Michael alias Red, 42, son of late Shamungou Meitei of Lisham Leirak, Khongman Zone-3, Imphal East and Konsam Manithos Singh, 46, son of K. Bihari Singh of Lairikyengbam Leikai, Salanthong, Imphal East.

The officer said both the arrested persons are incorrigible persons and are members of an outlaw underground group. However, the police declined to reveal the name of the group.

In the course of investigation on hurling of the hand grenade Manipur Police collected various CCTV footages and intelligence reports which guided to the arrest of the two persons, DIG (Range-I) Themthing Ngasangva said.

Iboshana was arrested on Saturday from his residence. From his instance eight circuit devices, two remote control white in colour along with one mobile handset and two SIM cards were seized. On further follow up action Manithos was arrested on Monday. From his instance one silver colour car and one red scooter and four mobile handsets were recovered, the DIG said.

Both the accused persons admitted to have hurled the grenade at Nityaipat Chuthek near Raj Bhavan gate and also revealed that they were involved in several blasts that undertook in and around Imphal areas, he added.

According to the senior police officer the duo were involved in hurling of hand grenade to security forces deployed at Lilashing Khongnangkhong, Imphal in July 2019, hurling of hand grenade to security forces at AG gate in the month of January 2020 and grenade blast and IED plantation at Yaiskul Police lane in July 2019 among others.

Apparel of both the accused persons worn on the day of commission of crime have also been recovered. It has been found that both the accused persons have been earlier arrested and are both bail outs, the officer said.

Security measures have been beefed up in different parts of the state ahead of the Republic Day celebration. Police prepare maximum action plan to prevent any unwanted incident, he added.
