Imphal: Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh on Friday extended his ‘heartiest greetings and best wishes’ to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Mera Chaoren Houba which falls on Saturday.
Mera Chaoren Houba is a traditional festival heralding the advent of Mera Tha, the seventh month in the Meitei Lunar Calendar. The festival aims at preserving and promoting unity and strengthening the bond of brotherhood amongst all communities in the state for a more harmonious, peaceful and prosperous Manipur, Biren said.
The month of Mera brings back the age-old tradition of love and brotherhood between the hill and valley people residing together in Manipur. The festival assumes significance even more today when various vested interests are attempting to incite feelings of ill-will and enmity amongst various communities, he added.
“May this festival strengthen further the inseparable bond existing since time immemorial between the hill and valley people in our state,” the chief minister said as he greets the people of Manipur on this ‘joyous’ occasion.
