Imphal: Thoubal Police commandos on Friday early morning apprehended two drug traffickers during frisking and checking at Khekman Horongbam in view of the upcoming by-elections.
The two drug traffickers were identified as Md. Rashid Ali, 30 , son of Md. Liyakat Ali of Lilong Turel Ahanbi Lou Manga and Md. Safique Khan, 23, son of late Md. Anjop Ali of Lilong Kaleikhong Ipham, Thoubal.
The police team under the supervision of superintendent Dr S. Ibomcha Singh conducted the ‘intensive’ frisking and checking to detect movements of anti-social elements and transportation of illegal items.
During the said frisking and checking the team detained the duo coming in two-wheeler Honda Grazia, blue, with no registration number plate.
Five boxes of suspected contraband SP capsules was detected inside the tool box of the two-wheeler. Each box 144 capsules. Altogether 720 capsules were found.
The apprehended persons and the seized contraband items were handed over to Thoubal Police station for further necessary legal action, police said.
