Van Mahotsav at Manipur Science Centre

Imphal: Directorate of Science and Technology, Manipur and Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC), organised “Observation of Van Mahotsav 2020” by planting trees at DST Complex, Takyelpat, Imphal on Friday.

The main objective of this observance was to give awareness of trees among people and portrays the need of planting and tending of trees as trees are one of the best way to prevent global warming and reduce pollution.

On the occasion M. Joy Singh, Commissioner (Science and Technology), its director E. Ibocha Singh, and L. Dinachandra Singh, director, MASTEC participated with officials of this department during the function.

About 200 sapling trees were targeted for planting in this complex which was supplied by Forest Department, Manipur.

On this day, one Toy Train platform was also inaugurated at the science centre.

The Toy Train was gifted by Ministry of Railway during 2019-20. The actual cost is about Rs. 80.00 lakhs with transportation from Izatnagar, U.P. to Imphal, Manipur.

It was inaugurated earlier by deputy chief minister Y. Joykumar Singh on March 16 without having Platform. It will be operated very soon after lockdown is ended, a press statement said.
