Imphal: Water resources and youth affairs and sports minister Letpao Haokip on Friday flagged off two buses for evacuation of Manipuris stranded in Guwahati during the Covid-19 lockdown.
The buses were flagged of at the minister’s residence at Koirengei. A total of 46 persons belonging to his constituency, comprising of students, working people and those who went outside for medical treatment purposes will be brought out in the two buses.
The evacuation will cover 46 persons belonging to Chandel-41 Assembly Constituency.
The minister said along with the government, legislatures, public representatives, CSOs etc should extend their best possible help to the Manipuris stranded outside in such critical times, as they have been subjugated to racial discrimination too, apart from many other usual inconveniences.
Letpao said the evacuated persons will be tested for Covid-19 strictly and will be quarantined at quarantine centres in the state as per government guidelines even if they turn out to be negative.
The quarantine centres will be at Chakpikarong Higher Secondary School, St Joseph’s School of Sugnu, Khambaron BDO office, JNV Chandel and District Hospital, Chandel.
He said he personally arranged the evacuation trip bearing all the expenses, as one should assist in the initiatives taken up by the present state government at his/her personal capacities.
He appealed those Manipuris stranded outside to register themselves to “http://www.tengbang.in” www.tengbang.in initiated by the government or to approach the representatives/members/officials of the consultative committee formed by the government.
He appealed to the public not to stigmatise and traumatise those individuals returning from outside, and to co-operate them with empathy.
