Imphal: Education minister Dr. Thokchom Radheshyam urged the Union HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ to direct the states to open a database centre for students studying at their states belonging from different parts of the country.
He said if the database for students in schools to university level, hailing from different states of the country is prepared by each state, it will help in identifying and facilitating the students in the time of crisis.
The minister was speaking to DIPR reporter on Wednesday. He said the proposal was put foreword during the video conference meeting of the Union minister along with minister of state for HRD, Sanjay Dhotre with the education Ministers and education secretaries of all the states held on Tuesday.
Radheshyam opined that if the database of the students studying in each states of the country is created, then the respective states can share the data among themselves. This will help the respectives State goverments’ to reach out to the needy and stranded students in other states and address their grievances quickly at emergency like situation in the future. He expressed that as for now since there is a lack of such data and most of the states are facing problems in tracking the students who had gone to other states to pursue studies.
In the video conference meeting, the minister sought for approval for the solar power plants, facilitating infrastructure for offline learning procedures for schools located in the interiors of the state. He said the state plans to introduce pre-nursery and nursery classes in government schools.
The minister stated that the evaluation of the answer papers for the High School Leaving Examinations, 2020 and Higher Secondary Examinations, 2020 has already begun. He also highlighted the initiatives taken up by the department of education (school) as the schools are closed because of the coronavirus pandemic lockdown.
He said that the Union HRD minister was informed about the team of teachers from various schools that has been formed to prepare e-content as an intermediate measure. Various private/government schools have been assigned a category of class or classes and a platform will be created by the Government for uploading the contents. This will take some time to complete, but once it is completed audio classes/audio mode will be broadcast on AIR and other local channels.
He said comic textbooks for Class 3-5 for three subjects – EVS, Language and Maths have been uploaded. E-Textbooks are made available since April 16 for the first time in Manipur on “http://www.bosemebook.in/” “_blank” www.bosemebook.in.
On the revised academic calendar in view of the academic time loss due to lockdown, the minister said the education department will follow the guidelines of the ministry. He also stated the measures the department is planning to take up as after opening the schools.
He said once the schools are open the duration of the classes for the lower class will be extended and there will be no summer vacation. There may be also classes on Sundays and the syllabus will be rationalised and academic calendar will be reviewed accordingly, he added.
