Pothashang News Service: Imphal, April 18, 2020: In compliance of the Supreme Court’s directives, a total of 69 prisoners–64 prisoners from Sajiwa Jail on parole and five prisoners from Central Jail, Imphal including one convict have been released on interim bail /parole for 3 months by the concerned Courts of Manipur.
They were released on the recommendation of the High Powered Committee under the chairmanship of Justice Kh. Nobin Singh, Dr. J. Suresh Babu, chief secretary, government. of Manipur (member) and P. Doungel, ADGP (prisons) member constituted by the state government to decongest the prisons in view of Covid-19 outbreak in the country, said a statement released by superintendent Manipur Cenral Jail, Sajiwa on Saturday.
The released prisoners have been transported to their respective residences by the concerned district oolice in view of the present lockdown in the state, it added.
