Imphal customs arrests 2 drug peddlers

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, March 21, 2020: Anti-smuggling unit of Customs Division, Imphal has arrested two Assam residents for ferrying World is Yours (WY) tablets worth Rs 6 crore from Imphal city.

The duo was identified as Najrul Hussain Choudhury, 37, son of Sirajul Ali Choudhury, resident of Uttar Lalpani, Lakhipur, Assam and one accupant, Ramajan Husen Barbhuiya, 25, son of Nijam Uddin Barbhuiya of Makhan Nagar Basti, Assam.

They were transporting the drug in a white colour Mahindra Bolero bearing registration number MN O1AK – 3891.
The officers of the anti-smuggling unit intercepted the vehicle at M.G. Avenue near a traffic point. They found 60,000 amphetamine tablets in the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle named Najrul Hussain Choudhury, 37, son of Sirajul Ali Choudhury, resident of Uttar Lalpani, Lakhipur, Assam and one accupant, Ramajan Husen Barbhuiya, 25, son of Nijam Uddin Barbhuiya of Makhan Nagar Basti, Assam, had been apprehended.

The Customs Officers immediately took possession of the vehicle alongwith the contraband drugs and were brought to the Customs Divisional Office, here, said a statement released by superintendent P. Roben Singh.

A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of NDPS Act, 1985. The value of the seized contraband drugs is estimated to be Rs 6 crore. The vehicle which was used as a conveyance for transporting the contraband goods was also seized, it added.

Najrul and Ramajan have been arrested under the NDPS Act.

Further investigation to nab the other offender(s) of the case is going on, the release said.
