3 involved in blast at BSF post arrested

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, March 23, 2020: Manipur Police arrested three persons involved in the Sunday blast at BSF CI Post, Wangjing and seized explosive devices.

The arrested attackers were Aribam Md. Iliyas khan, 22, son of Md. Heshamuddin Khan alias Tomba and Phundreimayum Md. Akram Hussain, 22, son of Md. Muheiruddin both from Sangaiyumpham Part – 1 Puleipokpi, Thoubal district and Khumukcham Pradeep Luwang, 33, son of Kh. Mangoljao of Kakching Khunou Thingnam Bokul Leikai, Kakching district.

Iliyas is the organisation secretary of a student organisation called Reformist Students Front (RSF), Thoubal district branch.

Thoubal Police superintendent Dr. S. Ibomcha Singh told reporters that a team he led rushed to the blast area and conducted cordon and search operations, during which, a blood soaked jacket was found and the police team followed the blood trail up to western bank of Heirok-Wangjing river.

The  team surrounded two houses and Iliyas was found hiding in an incompleted house located at Wangjing Wangkhei Maibam leirak and arrested him.

On the spot inquiry he disclosed that Akram planted the IED near the BSF camp on the instruction of Pradeep. The police team rushed immediately to Sangaiyumpham area and conducted search operation and arrested Akram.

Another police team arrested Pradeep from Khangabok Higher Secondary School area on Sunday night itself.

Pradeep confessed that he went to Moreh along with Iliyas in January and met the commander of the proscribed militant outfit PREPAK ‘self-style’ commander Tamocha and one of his cadres at Myanmar, the senior police officer said.

Tamocha delivered the IED materials. Pradeep and Iliyas Khan assembled one IED which was planted and exploded on Sunday near BSF CI Post Wangjing by Iliyas and Akram following instructions of Pradeep, who again followed Tamocha, he added.

Police recovered 7 detonators, explosive chemicals weighing 2.530 kg, one electronic circuit, one multi-meter with wires, one remote control device, one dry battery (9 volt), three mobile handsets, one DIO scooters from the residence of Iliyas.
