Imphal, January 31, 2018: Employees recruited in in 2016 at Public Works Department (PWD) today locked the main entrance of the department building and staged a sit-in demanding to lift “Keep in Abeyance” order imposed upon the employees.

All Manipur Newly Appointed PWD Employees’ Association (AMNAPEA) also demanded to complete process of listing them in the Manipur Government Employees List.

AMNAPEA vice-president Y. Chandrasekhar said the government has exploited them by putting several restrictions on their service in the form of different orders many a times after they joined the Department and even after ID cards were issued.

The employees have taken up several agitations and submitted memorandums to the government demanding to settle our issue. “However the authorities have deaf ears”, said Chandrasekhar.

The recruitment results for 342 persons for Grade III and IV post were declared on December 31, 2016 and joined the service in March 2017.

However, on March 16 last year, the transfer and posting orders of the newly appointed employees issued after the declaration of the recruitment result were-cancelled in the name of reviewing it on 20, a reposting order was issued allowing them to join in the respective divisions, he said.

On April 29 a “Keep in Abeyance” order was issued upon their service. “We have been demanding to settle our issue to ease the burden we have been facing”, said Chandrasekhar.

Police dispersed the sit-in and broke the locks to open the gate.
