Imphal, January 12: Power and works minister Thongam Biswajit has assured the people of Ukhrul to take up road constructions and complete road repairing works being taken up will be completed by February.
He also instructed the implementing agencies to maintain proper quality in road repairing works reacting on the allegations made through the social media of poor quality in the repairing works.
The minister was at the inaugural function of the VIII Tangkhul Naga Zingtun Longphang Sports cum Cultural Festival at Ngaimu Village in Ukhrul District. He also inspected the repairing works in Ukrul.
During his inspection minister Biswajit said although the road repairing works is undertaken by National Highway Infrastructure Development Cooperation Limited (NHIDCL), he came for the inspection as it is undertaken in the State. He said repairing works in the state are being undertaken by BRO and NHIDCL and it has been found that out some portion of works undertaken by BRO did not maintain quality and the work progress is very slow.
Within two days, he will convene a meeting with BRO officials and instruct them to complete repairing works at the earliest without compromising quality, he added.
Addressing the gathering at the inauguration of the sports festival Biswajit said proposals have been submitted to the Centre to take up Tolloi Junction to Somdal, Ngaimu junction to Tuinem, Shiroi Ring Road, Awang Kasom Chingai Road, Nambisa Road and others under the Central Road Fund. He continued that proposal to take up improvement work of Eastern and Western Circular Road in Ukhrul under the Road Infrastructure Development Fund has already been submitted to the Centre.
He further explained the District Rural Road Plan and appealed to people to support the government’s endeavour to enhance road connectivity.
The minister also assured people of Ngaimu Village in Ukhrul district that a 100 KV transformer will reach the village on Saturday. He said that the Central government is targeting to provide electricity to all homes by March 2019; however, the state target is to provide electricity to all homes by December.
Asserting that 33/11 KV sub-stations will also be set up at Somdal and in Kachai, the minister also stated that he will see to it that AB cables are installed in Ngaimu to improve power supply quality. He further spoke on the benefits of green energy or solar energy and said installation of solar roof top power plants will help in solving the power problem.
He also explained several schemes launched by the government for the benefit of the people including PMAY, UJALA, UJWALA, SAUBHAGYA, and NRLM. He said the DCs should erect hoardings to educate the public of the several schemes launched by the government.
He said that the present government believes in upliftment of the poor and that all schemes launched by the government are for the poor.
Speaking on the MNREGA, he urged all the job card holders to open their accounts while stating that the government has decided to cancel all job-cards without bank accounts. He said that fund allocation for the MNREGA is based on previous year performances.
He also observed that the present government under chief minister N.Biren Singh is trying to reach out to all villages in state. He said that it is also very encouraging that the Governor of the state has also shown keen interest in the welfare of the hills.
There is no success without hard-work, the minister said, stressing further that we have to act to bring development in our land. The Minister further spoke on the importance of public participation in bringing development to the society.
Minister Biswajit also unveiled the monolith of the festival. Today’s inaugural function was also attended by Phungyar MLA Leishiyo. Cultural performances were staged in the mega event.
