Imphal, January 12, 2108 (DIPR): Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh today opened the 25th Meet cum Silver Jubilee of Liangmai Sports Association (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland) at Liangchi (Makui) village in Kangpokpi district today.
Speaking at the occasion, the Chief Minister announced that a VIP gallery would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 50 lakh within this year at the meet venue.
As desired by the people, the Government would also consider the proposal for the construction of the Mini Sports Complex in the village, he added.
He also said that the Government would repair the damaged base of a bridge located on the road that connects Makui village with IT road as soon as possible.
It may be mentioned that the base of the bridge was damaged in the recent flood.
Stating that the Union Government is focussing to development of the North East region, the Chief Minister urged public to fully utilise this opportunity.
Appreciating the unity and good hospitality of Liangmai people, Chief Minister also congratulated the LSA for organising the sports event every year for the last 25 years. He said that that there is no dearth of talent in Manipur. However, the State needs to develop more infrastructures to tap these talents.
The Government would extend possible help to the organisers in the coming years to promote the sports culture in the region, he added.
Different cultural troupes including a group of dancers of 14th Bn Sikh Regiment presented colourful cultural items at the opening function.
Among others, Wangoi AC MLA Shri Oinam Lukhoi, Konthoujam AC MLA and Manipur Tourism Development Corporation Chairman Dr. S. Ranjan, Chief Secretary Shri R.R. Rashmi, DGP Shri LM Khaute, Media Advisor to CM Shri Irengbam Arun, Principal Secretary to CM Shri Vineet Joshi and 14th Bn Sikh Regiment Commandant Col. AK Singh were also present at the occasion.
