ASSAM RIFLES CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS

Imphal, December 26, 2017: In continuation of its welfare activities, IGAR (South) under command units celebrated Christmas at various location.

11 Assam Rifles organised Christmas Day celebrations in the area of responsibility of the battalion from 20 Dec to 25 Dec 2017. The occasion was marked with distribution of Bibles and wall clocks to all the ninetyfive Churches in Moreh and nearby areas. Various ceremonies and interaction followed by tea with locals and Pastors at IB location and Company Operating Bases, Moreh and Church Function at unit Church at Moreh Helipad were organised from Dec 20 to 25.

The series of interactions and celebrations concluded with Church function, cake cutting ceremony and feast with civilians organised on Dec 25 at Moreh Helipad location. Total 35 locals with Pastors attended the event of unit Church. The celebrations were inaugurated by Officiating Commandant, 2IC Surendra Kumar RS of the unit. This kind gesture of 11 Assam Rifles was highly appreciated by all locals and Pastors.

5 JAK RIF celebrated the festival of Christmas at Leishankhong Baptist Church, Leishankhong and Namthenglong Baptist Church, Uchiwa on Dec 25. The celebrations at Leishankhong Baptist Church started after the morning prayer which included a total of 23 persons and 6 children and the celebrations at Namthenglong Baptist Church, Uchiwa included a total of 70 persons including 25 children. Children were presented with gifts. Refreshments were provided to everyone and a small singing and dancing programme was arranged by the children present at church.

29 Assam Rifles located at Joupi celebrated Christmas with villagers in the area of responsibility of the battalion. Unit participated in mass prayers and supported the villagers in all possible ways for celebration of the festival. Due to unavailability of churches in remote villages in the area of responsibility of Hengkot company, the unit facilitated the celebration of Christmas in the Company Operating Base itself. A total of 130 villagers including children participated in the celebration.
