Imphal, October 11th 2017: Government e-Market Place (GeM) was officially launched in the State of Manipur in the Cabinet Hall of the CM’S Secretariat in a small function today. Department of Information Technology, Government of Manipur became the first Department to procure product from the Gem Portal and the product was delivered & handed over to the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Manipur by a registered seller in the GeM Portal from the State of Manipur.
GeM is a completely paperless, cashless and system driven e-market place that enables procurement of common use goods and services with minimal human interface. It is a one stop Government eMarketplace (GeM) to facilitate online procurement of common use Goods & Services required by various Government Departments / Organizations. GeM aims to enhance transparency, efficiency and speed in public procurement. It provides the tools of e-bidding, reverse e-auction and demand aggregation to facilitate the government users achieve the best value for their money.
It may kindly be recalled that Government of Manipur had signed MOU with the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India on 10″ August, 2017. Manipur is the 1″ State in the entire North-East to sign MOU with the Government of India to adopt GeM for Government Procurement.
The portal was launched on 9th August 2016 by the Hon’ble Commerce & Industry Minister. Presently, there are 1,98,277 products available under GeM Portal. So far, 13,125 Government Departments/Agencies/Societies has registered as Buyers at GeM Portal and there are 34,734 registered seller under GeM Portal.
