93RD BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF R. K. MAIPAKSANA OBSERVED

Imphal, October 11, 2017 (DIPR):  The 93rd birth anniversary of late R. K. Maipaksana, the eminent political activist, journalist, revolutionary and teacher was observed today at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound Imphal.

The anniversary was organised by R.K. Maipaksana Memorial Trust Imphal.  As part of the programme, R.K. Maipaksana Journalist Fellowship  2017 was conferred to regular columnist of the Poknapham Daily newspaper, Ningombam  Gunachandra Singh, well known critic Prof. Nongmaithem Tombi Singh delivered the seventh R.K. Maipaksana Memorial lecture on “Journalism ga Manipiuri Sahitya amasung Sanskriti ga leinaba mare”, Souvenir which was published  in connection with the observation was also  released and people paid floral tribute to the photo of R. K. Maipaksana.

It was said that the selection of the fellowship was based on Ningombam Gunachandra’s  published articles on women & children and communal harmony among different communities of the State in the last year.  The award carries a citation and cash award for Rs. 3,000/-per month for one year.

While giving the lecture, Prof. N. Tombi said that History is incomplete without journalism. Journalism and literature are like friends, siblings, etc,. Each need to support one another. The vivid example is that the classic poem of Dr. Kamal’s Meitei Chanu was inspired by Hijam Irabot’s first journal Meitei Chanu that was published in 1922. Dr. Kamal’s ‘Brojendro gi Luhongba’                was also earlier published in journal, the speaker added.

Former Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University Prof. Hijam Tombi Singh graced  the observation as President.
