Liquors damaged

For the second time ‘JAC against Drug and Alcohol’ of Thangmeiband has raided an alcohol hub and damaged large quantity of both local and foreign liquor at Lamphel, Imphal West yesterday.

The JAC has raided 36 bottles of bears and red liquors and 65 litres of local liquor after it had raided liquor worth about Rs. 30 Lakhs from a snacks shop at Thangmeiband Khomdram Selungba leikai on May 10.

The raided alcohol products were set into fire.

Shivkumar Ahongshangbam, a volunteer talking to ‘Pothashang’ said Manipur has been adry state since 1991, the uninterrupted and free going of bars and liquor vendors have pushed the society in negative direction. So we will continue our drive against drug and alcohol for a positive change. For this we need the support from all sections of the society including the media houses, added Shivkumar.

While the JAC proceed on their drive at Lamphel market complex the volunteers have found a man and a woman drinking together at one of the vendor house in the complex and handed to police.

The volunteers of the anti drug JAC say the Lamphel market complex has become a centre filled with anti social activities. If these anti social grimes are not removed the surrounding areas in Imphal will be largely affected.
