Suspected Kuki militant groups operating at Kangpokpi district battled a gun fight in the late afternoon today.
The incident took place at the hill lock above Khengjang village located around 18 km south west from National Highway 2 under Gamnom Sapormeina police station in Kangpokpi district at around 4: 40 pm said a source.
The gunfight was suspected to be between KNO/KRA and UPF/KNF who are both under suspension of operation and entities of the current tripartite talks with state and the central governments.
As par the ECI guidelines, groups under SoO were instructed to remain inside their respective designated camp during the ensuing 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election, 2017.
Villagers of Khengjang who heard the gunshot said that a bomb was also fired during the encounter that lasted for nearly an hour, said the source. However there has been no report of causalities till the filing of this report.
