Human rights crusader Irom Chanu Sharmila today identified the alleged BJP member who proposed her to fight for BJP and for which the national party could offer 36 crores Rupees.
Replying to the caution made yesterday by MLA Thongam Biswajit Singh to spell out the name of the BJP member who approached her and made the offer, Sharmila identified the person as one S. Binod, a convenor of one of the branch of BJP.
Talking to the reporters at her PRJA (People’s Resurgence and Justice Alliance) party office at Thangmeiband Sharmila said at the time when she decided to take up politics Binod along with a companion approached her to contest on BJP ticket for which he would talk to Amit Shah, BJP national president. He told her that to win in the election she would require Rs. 36 crores and that can be afforded by BJP, added Sharmila.
Sharmila decided to join politics by dropping her 16 years long fasting agitation against Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act.
Saying that PRJA and herself firmly stands for the truth being, Sharmila said she was ready to face any legal action taken up against her for alleging of the BJP member’s offer to her.
MLA Biswajit Thongam Biswajit Singh yesterday in a BJP campaign meeting cautioned Sharmila to clarify on the reports that BJP had allegedly offered her Rs. 36 crores to contest in the ensuing state assembly election. Biswajit said BJP would take the legal action if she failed to clarify.
Sharmila is contesting in two constituencies—one at the Thoubal assembly constituency where chief minister Okram Ibobi was elected and the other at Khurai constituency.
Erendro Leichonbam, convenor of PRJA said the party was ready to fight any legal action taken up either by Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Amit Shah. “We should focus on the present problem of the state instead of trying to tear each other down”, added Erendro.
