Congress and students have urged to unveil the points of agreement signed between the NSCN-IM and the government of India when the Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Imphal on February 25.
Deputy CM Gaikhangam addressing the people yesterday at Keishmathong in a congress election gathering for its candidate Laisom Ibomcha said the framework agreement was signed with the BJP and the state having various communities should not be put into chaos for the sake of one community. “The agreement cannot not be kept in a secret document; it should be announced publicly” added Gaikhangam.
“Everyone is worried because of keeping the points in secret which tells there is something that would disintegrate Manipur”, he added.
“The group imposing the economic blockade is UNC which is the frontal organisation of NSCN-IM which is again holding talks with the BJP government at the centre and there is no point BJP supports the kidnapping, killing and blockades by the NSCN-IM”, said Gaikhangam.
MLA R.K. Imo asked what the harm was in revealing the points of agreement included in the framework. “Please tell us what is behind the agreement when the Prime Minister comes to Manipur on February 25 and present a white paper to the people.
Why the BJP keeps on telling that the framework agreement would not affect the territorial integrity of Manipur, asked the MLA.
The NSCN-IM has been demanding a separate land for the Nagas by uniting the Naga inhabited areas in the north east that claims major portion of the geographical areas of Manipur. The talks between the Manipur based Naga outfit and government of India has been long awaited for a final outcome.
“The central government is government of the Lotus and the agreement is between the NSCN-IM and the BJP. The BJP also said they can bring an end to the economic blockade in two days if they govern the state. This shows there is something behind the screen”, said Imo.
Spearheaded by the All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) yesterday began its agitation demanding to reveal the points in the framework agreement. Today students made human chain in different parts of the state demanding the same. The students demanded to include promise to safeguard the territorial and social integrity of Manipur in the election Manifestoes and warned to disclose it when Prime Minister visits Manipur on 25 this month.
Veteran politician Okram Joy who is contesting on BJP ticket addressing a public gathering at the resident of Heikham Dingo said there is no reason to get panic regarding the framework agreement signed with Government of India and NSCN IM which will not affect the state in any way as PM signed under the constitution of India.
MLA Ibomcha said instead of blaming each other, the BJP and Congress should come together to bring about peaceful co-existence and also end to the economic blockade.
