Trinamool Congress is ready to contest in all the sixty constituencies in the forthcoming Manipur assembly election, said its national vice president Mukul Roy, today.
Talking to the reporters at its state unit’s office in Imphal, Mukul Roy said Trinamool Congress is a recognised party at the national level, so definitely we are ready to file candidates in all the sixty constituencies.
Mukul said in the last assembly election the people of Manipur gave support to Trinamool by winning seven seats. We will definitely do better this time and we need support of the people, added Mukul.
Out of the seven seats won by Trinamool in the last election four of the MLAs joined congress and two went to BJP while one passed away. Out of the two who joined BJP one of them has recently joined Congress.
Citing that the election commission of India had announced the date of election poll for Manipur to be held on March 4 and March 8, Mukul said the ECI should have looked at the law and order situation in Manipur before announcing the election schedule. Manipur has been facing scarcity of essential commodities with the price of petrol reaching Rs. 150 per litre. At the same time demonetisation has worsened public inconvenience, added Mukul.
He said demonetisation has so far taken the lives of 111 people and it should be withdrawn. The Trinamool Congress Manipur unit will stage a rally in Imphal against demonetisation on January 11.
He said India had experienced demonetisation in 1954 and 1979. As experienced in these phases the present demonetisation will not bring any good result. As it is failed the BJP has shifted its approach to cashless transaction and digitisation. Cashless transaction has not been successful even in America he added.
Mukul arrived Imphal yesterday and left today.
