Imphal, November 16: People of Changangei, ImphalWest today staged a sit-in adjacent to the exit gate of the Imphal international airport demanding justice against allegedly burning to death of a lady by her husband’s family.
‘Joint Action Committee against the brutal killing of Ch. Ibemcha’ organised the protest. Family members took part in the sit in protest demanding to give befitting punishment to the culprits. A team of Imphal West police intervened in the protest that continued at Keishampat, upon learning that the JAC was planning to submit a memorandum to chief minister Nongthongbam Biren.
Convenor of the JAC, Ng. Chaoba, 45 said, Ibemcha of Changangei was married to one Langpoklakpam Nabakanta from Kangmong Meisnam Leikai, Imphal West and her dead was mysterious.
On November 13 at around 11 pm her family was informed that Ibemcha was taken to hospital for treatment after she allegedly sustained injury from a pressure cooker explosion. She was brought death to the hospital at around 9 pm.
“We are suspicious that she was tortured to death. When her family visited Nabakanta’s home there was no sign of explosion of pressure cooker. How could she get her body burnt due to pressure cooker explosion? A portion of her bed was also found burnt. No one in the family heard of explosion”, said Chaoba.
Chaoba said Nabakanta had surrendered to the police on November 14. A post mortem was also conducted. But the result was not yet revealed. “We don’t need the result of the post mortem as the spot evidence is enough to prove that she was murdered”, said Chaoba.
