Imphal, November 1: The biggest festival of Kuki-Chin-Mizo community “Chavang Kut” was celebrated today across the state with its state function held at Ist Battalion Manipur Rifles ground.
It is one of the main festivals of Manipur and is celebrated with pomp and grandeur. It is an autumn festival of thanksgiving and prayers are offered for a bountiful harvest season and prosperity of the people. The post harvest festival is celebrated every year on November 1.
Governor Dr. Najma A Heptulla hit the gong with her hand thrice to mark the celebration begin.
Najma Heptulla said culture is beyond religion. Though we belong to any religion and worship any God, whichever way our remembrance and creator is, we are all united in one thing that we are all Indian, she added.
People of the state should continue sharing their belongings as their ancestors did with the entire village, said the governor. We should remember our creator while we enjoy the bounty of nature which has been given to us, she added.
She appealed the people to embrace ones’ culture, tradition, art, crafts, dresses and foods and also help one another to bring growth and development in the state.
Traditional dances of cultural troops like Thadou, Hmar, Kom, Vaiphei among others were performed as part of the celebration.
Large people from various communities thronged the Manipur Rifles ground to enjoy the festival.
Deputy chief minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh with V. Hangkhalian, minister of agriculture, veterinary and animal husbandry, Th. Shyamkumar, minister of MAHUD, forest and environment, Karam Shyam, Minister of consumer affair food and public distribution, Losii Dikho, PHED minister, Thangso Baite, MP Lok Sabha, RR Rashmi, chief secretary and LM Khaute, DGP, Manipur were among the guest that were present at the Celebration.
The festival was also celebrated at district levels and at village levels.
The state level festival also has a beauty pageant for the Miss Kut title. It carries cash rewards of Rs. 1, 00, 000 for the winner, Rs. 75, 000 for the first runner and Rs. 50,000 for the second runner, and 15,000 for the subtitles.
In the celebration at Tengnoupal district headquarter works minister Thongam Biswajit said the festival provide time to rejoice after harvest season. Love and harmony should enable us to remove the difference amongst ourselves. We all are children of the state, working together will able us to bring development in the state, he added.
Biswajit assured to construct guest house for the district. Blocks for the district will be demarcated at the earliest. Regarding the remaining sectors like PWD and power, he assured to deliver it with the consultation of the chief minister.
