Imphal, October, 20: Manipur State Solid Waste Management plant was shut down as contractors and workers protest in protest against non clearance of their pending remunerations.
Contractors who were allotted works for construction of infrastructures of the Manipur State Solid Waste Management, Lamdeng in Imphal West along with the workers yesterday shut down the main gate of the compound in protest against non clearance of their pending dues.
According to contractors the infrastructure of the solid waste management plan started construction from 2009 and completed in the year 2014. After the construction work had been completed the work of the solid waste management plan was handed over to a private firm. However, pending dues for the construction has not been cleared.
Naobi said, we have work for four years without getting any fees despite the fact that we have to run our families.
The workers threatened to close down the project until their pending dues are not cleared.
The agitation garbage collectors of the Imphal city have been facing problems as they were not allowed to dump the collected garbage at the site.
