Imphal, October 14: Total shutdown strike imposed by proscribed KYKL, KCP and the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) in Manipur and Tripura have paralyzed Imphal.
The strike was imposed denouncing against the alleged Indian colonial rule which came into effect since October 15, 1949.
The shutdown strike began at the midnight ended at 6pm today. It did not cover essential services.
No untoward incidents were witnessed during the strike. However the strike has brought a deserted look in Imphal with no transport services on the roads except some few. Business establishments which were generally opened even on Sundays were shut down due to the strike.
A joint statement of the three groups asserted that refusal of Tripura Merger Agreement (TMA) and Manipur Merger Agreement (MMA) which were signed respectively on September 9 and September 21, 1949 have been at the very heart of people’s struggle for freedom and change .
