Imphal, October 15: People today warmly received Dheeraj Moirangthem, goalkeeper of Indian under 17 football team, participated in the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup hosted by India.
Even if Indian squad was defeated in the group game, people appreciated the performance of the team specially the eight boys from Manipur.
Large crowd thronged at the Imphal International airport to cheer the hero who showcased his dynamic talent and saving many goals during the world cup. “He had attracted the people of the world by his actions, he is our hour. Our Manipur boys had lift high the fame and name of our Manipur.” Said one among the enthralling people at the airport.
Garlanded his full body by the sports enthusiasts of Manipur, Dheeraj were brought along the road while the people cheered him from both sides of the road.
Seven of the eight participants from Manipur were given warm reception yesterday.
Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem (Goal Keeper), Boris Thangjam (Defender), Amarjit Kiyam (Mid Fielder-Captain), Jeakson Thounaojam (Mid Fielder), Md Shah Jahan (Mid Fielder), Nongdamba Naorem (Mid Fielder), Suresh Wangjam (Mid Fielder) and Ningthoinganba Meitei (Mid Fielder) were among the Indian squad of 21.
