Imphal, October 5, 2017 (DIPR): Textiles, Commerce & Industries Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh inaugurated the week long “Mera Houchongba Festive Fair-2017”, today, at the Gandhi Memorial hall and said the Mera Houchongba encourages communal harmony and social integration in the State.
Elaborating on the age old tradition of the festival, Biswajit said that the festival has been observed in the State by different communities since time immemorial.
The Minister said that the festival is a big platform for promoting communal harmony and social integration among the people. He added that the festival is for the whole State, and not just for one community.
He further elaborated on the need to promote the festival and spread its awareness across the State.
Biswajit said that the festival promotes unity and strengthen the bond of brotherhood among the different communities of the State. He said there will be no development without peace and that peace will come with integration of the different people.
He further wished the fair a grand success.
Biswajit accompanied by officials and staff of the department also inspected the stalls opened in the compound of the GM Hall. He interacted with the artisans and stall-owners and enquired about their products. The fair will continue till October 11, 2017.
The inaugural function was also attended by MHHDC Ltd Chairman and Manipur State Planning Board, Manipur Deputy Chairman S. Rajen Singh and Handloom and Textiles, Manipur Director K Lamlee Kamei and HERICOUN, Advisor Mutum Churamani.
